To fix CrashPlan crash after 1435813200470_317.jar (may 2016) QNAP upgrade

    Problem :
CrashPlan do not want to start. In logs you have a file : engine_error.log that contain :

Error: Could not find or load main class com.backup42.service.CPService

And an upgrade.X.log file that end with :

Mon May 9 22:13:20 CEST 2016 : Upgrade process in progress...
Mon May 9 22:13:20 CEST 2016 : Is ARM device: false
    Mon May 9 22:13:20 CEST 2016 : Stopping CrashPlan
    Mon May 9 22:13:30 CEST 2016 : Stopped
Mon May 9 22:13:30 CEST 2016 : Removing old jar files...
Mon May 9 22:13:30 CEST 2016 : Moving new jar files...
mv: unable to rename *.jar: No such file or directory
    Mon May 9 22:13:30 CEST 2016 : Starting CrashPlan
    Mon May 9 22:13:30 CEST 2016 : Started

    Solution

The issue is that Crashplan change the upgrade format to a single file named upgrade.cpi. It can be opened with a binay file cpio that is not included in QNAP by default.

    Please follow the steps here

    1) Uninstall Crashplan on your QNAP NAS
    2) Install Crashplan again
    3) Install OPKG for QNAP : https://apps.qnap.community/11-community/10-entware-ng
    4) Login SSH on your NAS, type :

    opkg update
    opkg install unzip
    opkg install nano
    opkg install cpio

    6) Open with vi (or nano) the file /share/CACHEDEV1_DATA/.qpkg/CrashPlan/install.vars
    5) Open the install.txt attached on this post, and replace the content of /share/CACHEDEV1_DATA/.qpkg/CrashPlan/install.vars
    6) On http://XXXX/crashplan/ , choose the IP, memory, and save
    7) On QNAP interface, stop and start Crashplan
    8) Go back to http://XXXX/crashplan/ to get the new ID and update .ui_info file on your desktop
    9) Start your CrashPlan desktop app on your computer and login
    10) On the welcome screen on CrashPlan app, “Adopt” your old backup (https://support.code42.com/CrashPlan/4/Configuring/Replacing_Your_Device)
    11) The CrashPlan app will ask your login/password again, but will say “CrashPlan updating”
    12) After some minutes, CrashPlan should stop after starting the upgrade
    13) Upgrade should be done at this moment

    Check if everything goes fine
    14) run # cat /share/CACHEDEV1_DATA/.qpkg/CrashPlan/log/upgrade.1435813200470_317*
    15) You should be like that :
